Our Bridging Fellow, Dr Daniel P. Jones featured on BBC Radio Newcastle today, discussing his new project Towards Tourettic Futures. The broadcast will be available for the next 30 days on the programme website and BBC Sounds (approx 1.07 in to 1.14).
Daniel has been awarded a prestigious Wellcome Early Career Award for a 5-year project that transform understandings of Tourette Syndrome.
His project will centre the knowledge and experiences of Tourettic people, especially those that have historically been under-represented in Tourette research including global majority ethnic, queer and trans communities.
Through interviews, ethnography, zine-making and movement workshops, it will explore how digital technologies like online therapy, wearables and social media are affecting their experiences of diagnosis, treatment, stigma, community building and self-understanding.
The findings will help create a better future for research into Tourette Syndrome, public understandings, healthcare practice and policy.
