Meet Kristin Zeiler

September 30, 2026

We warmly welcome Kristin Zeiler, who joins the Platform as an International Professorial Fellow for the next two months.

Kristin is Professor in the Department of Thematic Studies: Technology and Social Change, and Director of the Centre for Medical Humanities and Bioethics (CMHB), Linköping University, Sweden. Rooted in the philosophy of medicine and empirical philosophy, her work focuses on the phenomenology of health, illness and medicine, feminist bioethics and critical studies of medicine and technology. She is particularly interested in the role of embodiment, affectivity, language and medical technologies for subjectivity and intersubjectivity, and how it can inform research in areas such as dementia, organ donation, long COVID and AI in healthcare.

Kristin Zeiler stands in front of a white brick wall. She is wearing glasses and a dark jumper with her hair in a ponytail.

During her visit, Kristin will be developing and completing significant ongoing research projects, including a major monograph examining age-related cognitive impairment, screening practices, subjectivity, and health governance, as well as further work arising from interdisciplinary research on post-Covid illness, phenomenology, rehabilitation medicine, and the conditions of interdisciplinary knowledge production in contemporary healthcare. Equally excitingly, Kristin will also be supporting strategic discussions about future joint initiatives, collaborative research development, doctoral and early-career researcher training, and longer-term institutional relationships between IMH and CMHB.

Welcome, Kristin – we’re delighted to have you in Durham!
