Bridging Fellow Daniel P. Jones has published an Open Access commentary in Neurodiversity, titled ‘Centring Tourettic Experiences in Technology: Tourette Syndrome, Median Nerve Stimulation, and the Role of Technoableism in Self-Harm and Stigma’.
This commentary applies the concept of technoableism to the recent trend in using median nerve stimulation for the treatment of tic disorders such as Tourette Syndrome, and urges researchers to position tourettic people at the centre of Tourette Syndrome research, treatment, and support provision.
The publication builds upon Daniel P. Jones’ ongoing development of a new framework for studying Tourette Syndrome, Tourettic Studies, and plays a fundamental part in bringing the focus of this research back to those most affected – tourettic people themselves.
