Updating the Global Medical Humanities Map

March 4, 2026
A blue and white world map with different coloured cluster markers showing the number of medical humanities units in each geographical area.

In 2024–25, with generous support from Wellcome, the Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities at Durham University created an interactive map and database to plot the world’s medical and health humanities institutions, centres and networks.

We created this resource to help raise the visibility and connectivity of research in the medical and health humanities. In time, we hope it will become invaluable to researchers, students, and anyone wanting to discover more about the health and medical humanities locally and globally.

You can visit the interactive map here: Medical Humanities Global Map.

We are updating the Global Map on an annual basis. If you would like to update the information about your organisation or you would like to add a new medical or health humanities unit (i.e. a research institution, centre, or network) to the map please complete this short questionnaire by 31 March 2026.

If you do not wish to make any updates to the map or add a new unit, you DO NOT need to complete the questionnaire.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 Global Medical Humanities Survey. If you would like a copy of the database based on the information in that survey, please email imh.mail@durham.ac.uk

Thank you for your participation. Please keep an eye on our website or sign up to our newsletter for the release of the updated map!
