A warm welcome to Ceclilia Rodéhn who joins the Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities as a Visiting Scholar this week in the Visual and Material Lab.
Cecilia works in the intersection of cultural heritage studies and mad studies, with a particular focus on how cultural heritage connected to psychiatric institutions and patients are negotiated during urban development. In doing so her research seeks to develop mad studies as a theory and methodology for the study of cultural heritage.

Cecilia has been the director of several research project, recently the FORMAS funded project “From psychiatric hospital to condominium – urban development and cultural heritage” (2020-2025). In 2020-2024 she initiated and led the interdisciplinary network Heritage Transformation exploring cultural heritage in transition. During 2024-2026 she was a member of the Oxford-Uppsala Culture and Creativity Research Cluster focusing on creative, public-facing and interdisciplinary approaches to research.
As a visiting scholar at the Institute for Medical Humanities, Cecilia will, in partnership with Fiona Johnstone and Allison Morehead, engage in conversations around medical humanities and cultural heritages of health and medicine. This work builds on and extends the collaborations between Durham, Uppsala and Queen’s Universities that began with the 2024–26 Matariki Network-funded project, Curating Cultural Heritage for the Medical and Health Humanities.
We look forward to working with you, Cecilia!
