Statement about Summits

The Platform’s Lab Summits are a dedicated space for researchers to come together and share ideas. These include works in progress, ongoing discussions, and unpublished work, making it vital that discussions are freely conducted and held in a spirit of curiosity and mutual respect.

Summits bring together people from a range of backgrounds, identities, disciplines, professions, and career stages. They are invitation-only events in which all participants should feel welcome, included, and valued. If you are presenting at the summit, you might find our guide for speakers a useful resource.

We want to be able to take intellectual risks together and challenge ourselves through the exploration of new ideas and perspectives. Respect and generosity are essential components of the trust needed for this kind of risk-taking. When we attend Summits we therefore need to balance our own knowledge, needs and expectations with those of others. ‘Challenge the idea, not the person,’ as the saying goes.

If you are ever concerned about something you experience or witness in a Summit, please do raise this with the Summit’s Creative Facilitator, your Platform line-manager, or the Platform Directors at any time. We will listen and discuss with you what follow-up actions can be taken.
